But when she experiences a terrifying vision of conflict and the deaths of those she once called friends, she must drag herself back to the land of the living to stop a war before it begins. With rebellion brewing, the Accord’s grip on the Outer Moons weakening and a sinister tycoon buying up all land in sight, Ten must find allies where she can and face the past in order to save the future. The cost will be greater than she could ever have imagined...

Holborn’s thrilling sequel to Ten Low is another romp into a Mad Max–like world in outer space. Series heroine Low is now a reclusive medic on the moon Factus, avoiding prolonged human contact to keep everyone safe from the curse she carries. By all accounts, she should be dead, but her curse enables her to connect to the Ifs, which allow her to see infinite possibilities of the future during games of chance. When Low sees a vision of one possible future in which her former friends die, she chooses to return to her old life, reuniting with old allies in hopes of stopping a brewing war. They’ll have to go up against tycoon Lutho Xoon, a ruthless businessman intent on “buying up Factus one settlement at a time.” Holborn’s vision of the future is as stark and gritty as ever, leavened with flickers of hope and resilient friendships. Series fans and new readers alike will eat this up. Agent: Anne C. Perry, Ki Agency.

A high-energy space Western that hinges on fighting back against the most depraved of corporate greed, Hel's Eight is a thoroughly satisfying follow-up to Ten Low (2021). Our narrator is a free medic, living out on the Edge with only her mechanical dog, Rowdy, for company, until the day the former General Gabriella Ortiz, impossibly still alive, visits to tell her that they've lost Landfall Five. Lutho Xoon has been buying up pieces of Factus. It takes more than just Gabi's word for Low to give up her life as a medic, but she goes to Paranoia to trade and gets caught up in an attack by a Xoon-funded gang. Interspersed are the notes of Peccable Eight, from her arrival as a prisoner promised early release in exchange for hard labor on Factus to her encounters with them, the forces that are behind why even a simple act like flipping a coin is fraught with danger. In between shootouts and chases, the story grapples with identity, fate, and difficult choices, with broadly drawn characters filled in with colorful depths and nuance.
