Magazine

Women's Health readers strive to better their whole lives. And that's exactly why Women's Health reports on all the topics that interest them. In every issue you'll find topics on success strategies, nutrition, weight loss, health, fitness, special reports, sex & relationship, beauty breakthroughs, and style & fashion.

Liz’s LETTER • As we like to say around the Women’s Health office, all things in moderation, including moderation.

HIGH-FIVE FEED

BALANCING ACT

Calm by Design • I’m a writer at heart and a creator at my core. So when I found myself overly stressed by life (deadlines! marathon training!) and love (falling for the wrong guy), I opted for a new—actually, old—meditative hobby: drawing. Once a week for several months, I sat down and sketched the way I did when I was a kid. And my gosh, did it work to calm the “what if?” thoughts that always swirl around in my head.

WARM UP

A Different Dimension

Put a Ring on It • You could stick to body-weight moves when you’re time-pressed…or you could bring in a prop to get more out of each minute. A flexible Pilates ring recruits allll your core muscles—without straining your back. Try this circuit from physical therapist Brittney Mims, DPT, founder of Fit With Dr. Britt. Perform all reps of each exercise; repeat twice, for three total sets.

Nix Your Neck Pain • All that traveling in tight spaces and sleeping on strange mattresses can leave your upper body tighter than your cousin’s ugly Christmas sweater. Stretch out!

WTH, Another Bruise? • If you bang up like a peach, there may be a few problems (some NBD, some more serious) at play…

POWER OVER PICKING

Slice of Moderation • You don’t have to choose between total deprivation and next-level decadence this holiday season. Nutritionist Amanda Conway, RDN, founder of Eat Fit Live, shares how to meet in the middle.

Muscle Those Brussels • Let us guess: roasted in the oven with salt and pepper? Bor-ing. Shake up your sprouts to reap more bennies, with these recipes from Eliza Savage, RDN, a dietitian at Middleberg Nutrition in NYC.

Spot at the Table • Peep this primer before you sneak your dog some human treats.

’Shrooms: The New Weed?

Cozy Up and Read • You have full permission to spend your PTO in PJs. Hunker down with these.

THE MAMMO GOES GLAM

Feeling Flu-like? • Nausea, fatigue, body aches…sounds like the flu, but if it happens regularly, around that time of the month, you probably have the “period flu.” While you don’t have the influenza virus, estrogen levels plunge right before your period, inviting similar symptoms. Then there’s a spike in prostaglandins, which brings tummy probs (cramping, diarrhea)—even a fever. Good news: Because the period flu is really just severe symptoms of PMS, you can treat it.

Host and Coast • You can throw an OTT dinner party without—get this—going over the top. These no-fuss (yet thoughtful!) tricks make the whole experience easier on you—and more elevated for your guests.

A Recipe for Success

Party Pony • Heading to a holiday party after a HIIT class? Festive accessories will instantly take your strands from sweaty to celebratory.

“I will prioritize sleep for glowy skin.”

Out of the Blue • Did you know that light from your phone can damage your skin? Complexion protection, comin’ right up.
