Seventh grader Ian Shin loves his baseball team — they're like a family. So when Ian's dad's valuable signed baseball goes missing after a team sleepover, he can't believe it. The culprit could only be the pitcher, Hunter Yates. Not only is he new, but he has a brand new glove at practice the next day. The big game is coming up, but can Ian trust his teammates and work together to bring the team a win?

The Horn Book
July 1, 2016
These easy-to-read sports-centric stories concern themes of trust and ethics. The protagonists of both stories must balance their personal feelings and problems with the needs of each one's respective team if they all are to succeed together. The story lines are predictable, but expressive illustrations convey characters' emotions and add some depth to the situations. Discussion questions, writing prompts, and a soccer/baseball "Dictionary" are included. Glos.(Copyright 2016 by The Horn Book, Incorporated, Boston. All rights reserved.)
