Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rikki Johnston. I'm a thirty-year-old web designer, from Oakland, California. I have two cousins, Angelique and Angel; one is a bomb-ass hairstylist, while the other is a CSI technician for the Oakland Police Department. We're all well-rounded women making our way in life the best way that we can. We're a close-knit trio with a secret: We kill people. Not to be confused with serial killers. See, serial killers commit a series of murders, often with no apparent motive. That's where we differ. When we kill, there's always a motive.
The start of it all . . .
Fifteen years ago, our lives were touched by a devastating tragedy. My cousin, Audrey, who was Angelique and Angel's mother, was gunned down on the streets of Oakland. We were right there when it happened. We were right there to cradle her lifeless body. How do you get past losing someone you love in such a violent and senseless way? You don't.
But they say that time heals all wounds. Unfortunately, this maxim is not a 'one-size fits all', and the three of us had to collectively find a way to get beyond the pain. So, we signed on to inflict a little bit of our own in the form of vigilante justice. We understand the need for closure. We understand wanting to see criminals punished—the right way.
However, tending to the needs of everyone else, has its share of problems. Angel, the youngest of us refuses to acknowledge the love of a good man that's right in front of her. Angelique, has a man knocking that she won't let past the friend zone. And me, I thought I'd found love only to be betrayed by that love.
But will love even matter if we aren't there to bask in the glow of it? While we're winning at street justice, we might be getting ready to lose at life. We have no idea what's right around the corner for us. The past is about to clash with our present in a way we never imagined. We thought we were dealt a blow when we lost Audrey, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. It's not long before each of our lives are turned upside down.
