In this third part of the Strange Angels series, Dru's knowledge of the "real world"--the reality that includes vampires, werewulfen, and magic--deepens as she uncovers the story of her mother's past and tries to figure out whom she can really trust. Alyssa Bresnahan presents Dru's story in a matter-of-fact tone that is a perfect match for the no-nonsense teen. However, unlike other narrators in this genre, Bresnahan is not very expressive in her reading. While this understatement minimizes the personal drama in Dru's story, it also makes it difficult to tell which character is speaking and when the story is taking place--in the present or in Dru's memories and dreams--as there are many flashbacks that tie Dru's present to her past.
